Save your receipts: The Quebec Provincial Government imposes a 7.5% tax on accommodations (TVQ) in addition to the 7% federal goods and services tax (TPS). Foreign visitors can recoup most of the Montreal hotel tax, but you'll need to keep your receipts and file the necessary refund form. You can also recoup some of your taxes on Montreal purchases. When To Visit: Anytime of year! Depending on your motivation, Montreal has a great variety of activities for you to enjoy year-round. Peak season runs from May to October so be sure to secure your reservations before leaving home. June and July are always heavily booked with people visiting during the Montreal festival season. Rates at most Montreal hotels will generally be higher during peak season, but with a little perseverance and digging, you can still find affordable Montreal accommodations. Winter: Winter ski packages are abundant in the land of snow-capped mountains and sleigh rides. The ski hills are so close to Montreal(20 minutes to 2 hours away) that you can ski all day long and return to Montreal for your night's stay. There are of course, many great ski resorts to stay at, should you choose to remain in the mountains overnight.
