Imagine just for a moment being treated like a King or Queen at one of Montreal’s hotels. Close your eyes, sit back and imagine this - pampered at a luxury Montreal hotel - fine dining every night of the week in one of many Montreal restaurants - attending Montreal festivals, Montreal museums, the Montreal theatre, or visiting the Montreal casino. Well, for the cost of taking a weekend jaunt to Europe, you could live like royalty in Montreal for a full week, even longer. Save the overseas airfare and the exorbitant hotel and restaurant rates you'll undoubtedly pay over there, change in your American dollars for many more Canadian dollars and prepare to paint our town RED.

Save your receipts: The Quebec Provincial Government imposes a 7.5% tax on accommodations (TVQ) in addition to the 7% federal goods and services tax (TPS). Foreign visitors can recoup most of the Montreal hotel tax, but you'll need to keep your receipts and file the necessary refund form. You can also recoup some of your taxes on Montreal purchases. Look out for these tax rebate forms displayed in most Montreal hotels and retail outlets.

When To Visit: Anytime of year! Depending on your motivation, Montreal has a great variety of activities for you to enjoy year-round. Peak season runs from May to October so be sure to secure your reservations before leaving home. June and July are always heavily booked with people visiting during the Montreal festival season. Rates at most Montreal hotels will generally be higher during peak season, but with a little perseverance and digging, you can still find affordable Montreal accommodations. Throughout the year, however, many Montreal hotels do offer discounted weekend rates at a substantial savings.
Spring: Although Spring officially rings in on March 21st; Montreal weather does not always cooperate, so if you are looking for pleasant spring weather a safe bet is to visit after mid-May. With festival season kicking in at the end of Spring, this is a great time of year to plan your visit to Montreal.

Summer: The sun is hot and people are crowding the streets - It must be Montreal festival time! Check our guide for summer Montreal festival dates and put on your walking/dancing shoes. After stowing our skis away and shedding the warm clothing, Montreal blossoms during the Summer months. Montreal Hotel rooftop restaurants are bustling with sun-worshipers and outdoor terraces (sidewalk cafés) are thick with tourists and Montrealers alike.

Fall: Without a question, autumn is a most picturesque time of year in Montreal and surrounding areas. Enjoy a colourful walk around Montreal’s Mount Royal and experience the brilliance of our fall leaves with yellow, orange and red leaves adorning the trees. Get there by hiking straight up Peel Street, by bus or a Montreal tradition - take a romantic ride in a Calèche (horse-drawn carriage).

Winter: Winter ski packages are abundant in the land of snow-capped mountains and sleigh rides. The ski hills are so close to Montreal(20 minutes to 2 hours away) that you can ski all day long and return to Montreal for your night's stay. There are of course, many great ski resorts to stay at, should you choose to remain in the mountains overnight.

Enjoy your stay!
